What if “better” doesn’t mean more? What would make life better – not bigger, busier, or more bio-hacked, but more “just right”? I’ve been exploring a new question… and it’s led to a new adventure. I hope you’ll join me!
I’m Mindy Peterson, host of Enhance Life with Music podcast, where we explore all the ways music can make our lives better. And this is Microhance, a micro-dose of musical enhancement.
If you’ve been listening to Enhance Life with Music for a while, you know that I’m endlessly curious about the many answers – sometimes surprising answers – to the question: How can music make our lives better?
For more than seven years now, I’ve explored that question with scientists, educators, health practitioners, artists, athletes, and all kinds of fascinating people who are harnessing the power of music to enhance our health, happiness, and everyday lives.
This exploration led me to branch out in early 2024 with an addition to the podcast family: Microhance (which you’re listening to now). These bite-sized episodes, lasting 10 minutes or less, serve as quick musical snacks, offering tips, hacks, resources, and the personal ways I enhance my own life with music. They’re designed to inspire you on your own musical journey, whether you’re a seasoned musician or someone who simply enjoys the occasional radio hit.
But lately, I’ve been exploring a new question: What does it actually mean to live well? What would make life better – not bigger, busier, or more bio-hacked, but more just right? We don’t necessarily need more. We need to discover the just right balance that helps us thrive… right now, in the season we’re in.
Those questions are at the heart of a new adventure I’m embarking on… a brand new podcast called Lagom Life. Lagom is a Swedish concept often translated as “just the right amount.” Not too much. Not too little. Enough.

Because I don’t think that living well is about constantly adding more – or stripping everything away. It’s about figuring out what’s right for you. Because what’s just right for me might not be right for you. And what’s just right for you today might not be right for you five or ten years from now.
So I’ve started asking questions like: What’s enough? What matters most? What actually helps us thrive? And… What would “just right” look like for me – right now? We’ll be exploring health, work, relationships, aging, leisure, and all the little choices that shape our everyday lives.
To be clear: Enhance Life with Music is not going anywhere! In fact, I see Lagom Life as a companion to this show rather than a departure from it. Both podcasts are really exploring the same bigger question: How can we enhance the experience of being human?
Enhance Life with Music asks: How can music make our lives better?
Lagom Life asks: How can we find a better balance in the way we live?
And underneath both is a common philosophy: We don’t necessarily need more. We need to discover what helps us thrive. Both shows are fundamentally about living well.
So, what does this mean for Enhance Life with Music? Going forward, Enhance Life episodes will move to an every-other-week schedule, continuing the format you’re familiar with: alternating full-length interviews with Microhance episodes like this one. And on the opposite weeks, I’ll be releasing an episode of Lagom Life.
You’ll also occasionally see some Lagom Life content popping up in the social media feeds where you’re accustomed to seeing Enhance Life with Music. I’m keeping those social channels together because, to me, these aren’t two completely separate worlds. They’re two expressions of the same curiosity about how we can live a richer, healthier, more meaningful life.
In fact, I suspect some of the questions I explore on Lagom Life may eventually circle back to music, because music is part of how I understand the world. But I’m excited to follow this new thread of curiosity and see where it leads.
And I would love for you to come along! The very first episode of Lagom Life is called “Introducing Lagom Life – Your weekly dose of equilibrium.” It’s a short introduction to the idea behind the show and why I’m so intrigued by this concept of finding our personal just-right. It’s available now, wherever you get your audio, and Ep. 2 will release next week.
Since this is a brand-new podcast, listens, follows, ratings, and reviews are especially important right now. So if you would like to support this little adventure, I would be so grateful if you would listen to that first episode! It’s only 3 minutes long.
And if you really want some bonus good-deed gold stars, please share the show with others – and consider rating and reviewing it in your podcast listening app (or on Podchaser)!
Those little actions can make a surprisingly huge difference when a podcast is just getting started.
So that’s my new adventure. Not a new direction so much as a new question to explore.
Thank you for being part of the Enhance Life with Music community! I hope you’ll join me in this next adventure, too, as we create a life that fits us a little better. Because we don’t necessarily need more. We need to discover what helps us thrive.

LIVING WELL WITH DR. MICHELLE: If you’ve listened to this podcast for long, you know that, in addition to being passionate about music, I am also passionate about natural health and wellbeing. So I was intrigued to learn about an all-natural toothpaste developed by a biologic, holistic dentist to effectively clean and protect teeth and strengthen enamel without fluoride or the many chemicals that are ubiquitous in the commercial toothpastes that I’ve always used without a second thought. What really caught my attention was that one of these dentist’s products was specially formulated for sensitive teeth, which I have thanks to gum recession. I was a little skeptical that an all-natural product would provide adequate sensitivity protection, but after trying it for several months, I am a fan. What clinched the deal was going to my 6-month dental cleaning and having my hygienist rave about the whiteness of my teeth.
