For many Americans, the marching band drumline is the sound of fall – mixed with colliding helmets and crowds cheering. The marching band, and specifically the drumline, bring an energy, school spirit, and game mood to the college football experience. We are talking today about the college drumline and its integral role in football game spirit.
Guest
Our guest today is University of North Texas Director of Athletic Bands Professor Daniel Cook, and we feature UNT’s highly ranked Green Brigade Marching Band.
Improv
Daniel recommends augmenting your musical experience by taking a moment to understand the context of the repertoire you’re listening to – whether at a college game day or at a concert (classical, rock, etc.). Take a few moments to read the program or Google the repertoire, composer, and context of the piece (when and why it was written).
